El Trabucador

23 miles from El Rincón Slow
El Trabucador is one of nature’s whims. Centuries of the combination of tides from the sea and the flow of the river after a stretch of more than 600 miles have formed La Banya, the peninsula placed at the southern end of the Delta del Ebro. It is linked to the rest of the delta by an extremely narrow isthmus known as the beach of Trabucador. El Trabucador is a strip of land 4 miles long and not much more than a hundred yards wide. It is a unique place that, more than a beach, is two beaches in one: one on the open sea and another that gives onto an inland bay. In the first one the water is usually colder and there are waves and currents, whereas on the beach facing the bay you will find warmer, calmer and shallower water. In the Trabucador you can find plenty of shellfish.
On the way to Trabucador, a stop at the Encanyissada is a must. The Encanyissada is the largest lagoon in the delta and here you will see the largest concentration of birds. It is possible to go around the whole perimeter of the Encanyissada by bicycle, a ride of about 8 miles.
