The Slow Movement

El Rincón Slow is part of the slow movement, a philosophy that wants to recover the pleasure of living without a rush. The slow movement is an alternative to the speed of consumer society and the western way of life. Our society is obsessed by speed, hi-tech, quick decisions, consumption, economic growth and virtual relationships.
In response to this way of life driven by inertia, the slow movement arises, which does not mean inactivity or emptiness, but, on the contrary, tranquility, awareness of what we do and capacity to enjoy all things on which we decide to spend our time. The slow movement means enjoying the genuine pleasures of life: wandering, reading, chatting, savoring the food, sleeping a siesta… In El Rincón Slow you will find a range of objects related to these genuine pleasures: hammocks, fireplace, library, big materasses, barbecue…
The slow movement covers different sides of life: slow food, slow travel, slow cities, slow work, slow schooling, slow sex.
The start of the slow manifesto says: “There are those who urge us to speed: we resist!”
Some slow commandments are:
1. Have a cup of tea and stretch your feet out of the window (don’t try this while driving).
2. To do more than one thing at a time means doing none well.
3. Do not be pushed into answering a question right away: take your time.
4. Read in bed, in a hammock or where you feel confortable.
5. Eat slowly, while you feel the flavors, enjoying the loneliness or the conversation with a nice company.
