In just one second the sun radiates more energy to the Earth than the amount that the whole of humanity has consumed throughout its history. The sun is not simply one more renewable energy source: the sun is energy itself.

In El Rincón Slow, more than 90% of the energy comes from photovoltaic solar power. With two photovoltaic panels of 125 Kw each and two of 40 Kw each, El Rincón Slow has a total absorption capacity of 330 Kw.

How does photovoltaic solar power work? Well, the solar light travels within space and reaches the Earth in 8 minutes; i.e.we are 8 light-minutes from the sun. The photovoltaic panels receive the photons that travel in the solar beams and, using certain conductive materials, transform the solar light into a direct current of electrons, that is to say, into electricity.

This direct current is not suitable for domestic use: with a transformer, the direct current becomes alternating current. This energy is stored in batteries that allow it to be used during the night and on cloudy days.

Photovoltaic panels are always south-facing (in the northern hemisphere) so that they can absorb more photons and for longer.Photovoltaic solar power is free and will never run out. Using it does not generate any greenhouse gases and, therefore, you are not contributing to more global warming. It does not matter how many photons you absorb or how much power you use: you will be sending exactly zero grams of CO² into the atmosphere.

El Rincón Slow does not use mains water. All the water that is used (taps, shower, etc.) is rain water. The whole infrastructure of the building is organized in order to collect the rain water that falls around the house. The water that falls on the roof and the terrace is stored in an underground cistern with a capacity of 18,000 litres.

All the firewood used in El Rincón Slow comes from the pruning and maintenance of the trees of the property. Used well, wood is a renewable resource, always on the condition that you burn less wood than you grow.
